How Gin Rummy Works
Gin Rummy is a two-player card game where you draw and discard cards to form sets (three or four of the same rank) and runs (three or more consecutive cards of the same suit). Your unmatched cards are called "deadwood." When your deadwood total reaches 10 or less, you can knock to end the round. If you meld every card in your hand with zero deadwood, that is gin — worth a bonus.
Quick Rules
- 1Each player is dealt 10 cards — one card is turned face up to start the discard pile
- 2On your turn, draw from the deck or the discard pile, then discard one card
- 3Form melds: sets (same rank) or runs (consecutive same suit), each 3+ cards
- 4When your deadwood (unmelded cards) totals 10 or less, you may knock
- 5Gin (zero deadwood) earns a 25-point bonus — first to 100 wins the match
